Marathon Mode

Wow, Itch says it's been 294 days since my last devlog. I need to work on that. While it was nice to work on some other projects for a bit, I'm back with some big plans for Trist. And while this update is decently significant, in that it includes a new game mode, the next update... Oh boy, I'm excited. And scared.

But let's stick to the present. What's new in this update? Well, I'm glad you asked!

Introducing Marathon Mode, a version of the block-placing mini-game that only ends when you're out of moves. The only score to beat is the global high score. Just talk to a character you've already slept with in the Morning, and they'll gladly throw out any plans they had that day to spend it all with you!

Global high score? Yes! If you opt in to online functionality (no personal information collected, and 100% opt in), you can save your high scores and try to get the best score for each character. If you decide not to opt in, that's completely fine. You will be able to see the high score for each character and beat it locally.

As smaller updates, I've also added a few new sprites for food items and added a slider for text speed in the Settings menu.

So what's so exciting about the next update? Well, in the past few weeks, I've been working on a very rudimentary UI library. While it's rudimentary, it does look better than Trist's UI right now, I think. So I'm hoping for a visual overhaul of all the menus, as well as an in-game character editor to make creating and editing characters much easier than it is now! I'm very excited to see that fall into place over the coming weeks. Wish me luck! And I'll be back with another devlog when it's ready.
